Linux Labs is a Linux administration trainer. It has lessons, a reference on commands and services, quizzes and labs you solve by hand on a real machine right in the browser.
How a lab works
When you start a lab, a personal KVM virtual machine is started for you from a reference Ubuntu 24.04 image. The lab scenario breaks something in it beforehand: a broken config, a full disk, a process eating the CPU. You fix it in the terminal as you would on a real server. The "Check" button looks at the final state of the machine, so there is often more than one right way.
The machine is disposable. After you stop it or leave it idle for long, it is deleted entirely, and the next one starts from the same clean image.
The demo on the home page
The console window on the home page plays several labs one after another. The commands were written in advance; the output was recorded once on the same kind of disposable machine you get. Commands are typed at an artificial speed so the demo is easy to follow.
What is open
Lessons, the reference and lab descriptions are open to everyone and need no sign-in. A guest's progress is tied to the browser. What data the trainer collects and how to delete your account is described in the privacy policy.
How the content is made
Lessons, articles and labs are kept as code and checked automatically. Before publishing, every lab is run on a live machine: the scenario breaks the system, the reference solution fixes it, and the check confirms it.
