Terms of use

Linux Labs is a free trainer for learning Linux administration on real virtual machines. By using the site you accept the terms below. How we handle data is described separately in the privacy policy.
The service
The trainer is free and provided "as is". We try to keep it available but do not promise uninterrupted operation: machines and the site may stop for maintenance, and labs and texts may change. The number of simultaneous machines is limited; when they run out, a launch waits in a queue.
Training machines
Machines are ephemeral: everything you did on one is deleted when it is removed — after idle time, when the session expires or at your command. Keep what you need on your side.
Machines are for learning only. You must not:
- try to escape the training machine or attack the trainer, other learners or third-party systems;
- bypass the limits on time and number of machines, including by creating extra accounts;
- run anything unrelated to learning: mining, mailings, other people's services.
If these rules are broken, we may stop the machine and close access to the account.
Account
Sign-in is through Google; it is needed to save progress and to start labs on machines. An account is for one person and must not be shared. You can delete it in your profile together with all its data.
Tickets, notes and bookmarks
Do not put other people's personal data, passwords or keys into tickets and notes. The server strips common secrets from attached terminal lines, but it cannot recognise everything.
Materials
The texts of lessons, articles, quizzes and labs belong to the author of the project unless a page says otherwise. You are free to read and use them for your own learning; copying and publishing them requires the author's permission.
Liability
Commands in the trainer are meant for training machines. If you run them on your own servers, you do so at your own risk: the author of the project is not liable for the consequences.
Changes and contact
These terms may change — the date at the top of the page will then be updated. Send questions and remarks through "Feedback" at the bottom of any page.
