Before cleaning, you save the directory whole; afterwards you check the state. You pick the commands.
A command that finished without errors does not prove the result: both mv commands at the start of the lesson were silent too. So check the state at the end: ls -l for names and types, cat for the contents of short files, and separately that whatever had to stay untouched is intact. One command compares the copy with the original: ls config config.bak lists both directories.
Back up a directory before cleaning it
In ~/file-lab, make a backup of the config directory named config.bak, with everything inside it. Then delete the temporary *.tmp files from config; config.bak must keep them.
