Summary

  • Without -c rsync copies whatever differs in size or modification time; it compares contents only with -c.
  • source/ with the slash carries the directory's contents, source without it puts the directory itself into the destination.
  • --delete removes extras only in the destination; an -ain plan before the run shows every deletion.
  • A mirror holds a single state; getting yesterday back needs saved versions.
  • At the start of the lesson rsync finished silently, yet settings.conf in the copy stayed old: the two versions matched in size and time, and the quick check took them for the same file.
