From GRUB to a target: how the system boots

Step 6 of 8 · on a machine · 3 min

A service in the boot

Now put the ordering together yourself: a service has to run at every boot before another one and not keep it from starting if it fails itself. Before the reboot check the unit — what the verify lines mean is in the Wiki. The check looks at the boot after your fix, so reboot the machine at the end, and Check will wait until it is back up.

Exercise · do it

Add the warm-up to the boot

The lab-warmup service warms up the site cache. Make it run at every boot of the machine and finish before nginx starts. nginx must still start when the warm-up has failed. The unit is /etc/systemd/system/lab-warmup.service; check it with systemd-analyze verify and then with a reboot — sudo reboot.
