The `~/notes-host` directory is yours, and it is attached to the notes container in place of /data. Why can't you append to notes.txt?

$ ls -l ~/notes-host
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6 Oct 20 14:42 notes.txt
$ echo second >> ~/notes-host/notes.txt
-bash: /home/student/notes-host/notes.txt: Permission denied

The container's process created the file as root, and on the host it belongs to root.
student is not in the docker group.
The directory is attached read-only (:ro).
The container keeps the file open.
