Summary

  • pwd and the prompt show where you are, and every relative path is counted from there.
  • A path that must work from anywhere is written from the root, with /. Test a relative path from the directory where it will be used.
  • find locates a file you cannot place — start it from a directory where the file can be. A path with a space goes in quotes.
  • > writes output to a file and wipes its previous contents, so you check what was written with cat.
  • Your colleague's path config/site.conf at the start of the lesson was relative: your colleague was in project, and you started in ~/path-lab.
