Summary

  • "The site is down" comes in three kinds: a refusal, a timeout and an application error answer, and curl prints each differently.
  • --connect-timeout and --max-time limit how long a check waits.
  • The HTTP status and curl's exit code are different numbers; with -f, a status of 400 or higher gives code 22.
  • A service check looks at the code, the status and the answer's text, and a report says where from, what and with which output the check ran.
  • At the start of the lesson the three complaints turned out to be three different stages: nobody listened on :8081, 192.0.2.99 was silent, and /health answered from the program: not-ready.
