Summary

  • Check the filesystem of the path being written to and both its resources: df -h for blocks, df -i for inodes.
  • A file's size, its blocks and its inode are separate measures; find consumers with du and du --inodes.
  • Remove only what is permitted and confirm the write as the user whose write failed.
  • At the start of the lesson touch could not create a file on an almost empty volume: hundreds of empty cache files had taken every inode while needing almost no blocks.
