Step 5 of 7 · on a machine · 4 min

A second partition on a disk in use

The same steps work on a disk that already holds a data partition.

A colleague gave the first half of the disk to data: the partition is mounted at /srv/data and listed in fstab. The second half is needed for logs.

Exercise · do it

Add a partition for logs

On the disk /dev/loop0 the data partition loop0p1 is mounted at /srv/data and listed in /etc/fstab. In the free space after it, create a partition for logs: ext4 labelled logs, mounted at /srv/logs by UUID with nofail. The data partition must stay in place along with its files.
